Plenty River Walk: Greensborough to Plenty Gorge Circuit
Greensborough
10:45 – 16:30
Update: This event will go ahead as planned, last minute bookings welcome. Enjoy a scenic day exploring the Plenty River and Plenty Gorge parklands where hikers can enjoy the rugged views, explore the many lookouts and enjoy the wildlife to offer on a full day's excursion through some untouched areas of suburban Melbourne. The gorge is usually full of bird song and the surrounding park is a safe haven for the local mob of kangaroos and other wildlife. A number of views will be had at several lookouts along the trail. Note: This event will cater for a maximum of 20 walkers only, so book in early.  GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Moderate, approximately 14 km, circuit walk, a mixture of flat and moderate inclines in parts with some steep descents on the return trail.   ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: Our hike begins at Greensborough station where we will take up the Plenty River trail as we follow the river northwesterly. After passing through Partingtons Flat, we hug the river for over 3 km as we examine the old Maroondah Aqueduct system before we make our way into Plenty Valley Gorge via Dry Creek.  Traversing the maze of bike tracks we make our way to the popular Blue Lake where we will stop for lunch and explore the area and take photos. On the return leg, we work through the gorge tracks before stopping for views at the Diamond Hills Reserve. We then traverse our way through the back trails of the Greensborough neighborhood, returning to the train station. Plenty Gorge Park offers a wide range of natural and cultural experiences only 20 km from Melbourne, where the spectacular gorge sets a backdrop for stunning landscape views and the abundant native wildlife are always on show. Walk the tracks to the beautiful gorge and marvel at the diverse wildlife living within the park. Shaped by volcanic activity, the Plenty River is a dividing line between two distinct geological types. The basalt on the west and sedimentary rock on the eastern side generate a wonderful diversity of habitats. This is intended to be a public transport friendly event where the start and end points will be accessible by train. BOOKING: By Friday 24th June. To register, click on Get Tickets. Tall Ship Sailing in Far North Queensland
Jun

2022 Past Event
Tall Ship Sailing in Far North Queensland
Breakwater Marina
09 Jun 2022 16:00 – 16 Jun 2022 17:00
Those who showed an Expression of Interest by December 2021, and paid a $200 deposit, will be sailing on a tall ship in Far North Queensland in June 2022. Participate in sailing the ship, snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, walking on a deserted island, and feeling the wind in your hair. Everyone sleeps in a communal cabin, and there are shared toilet facilities. This is a small discomfort to pay for the experience of sailing in the same manner that Captain Cook did. NOTE - SORRY THE EVENT HAS BOOKED OUT. SHOULD WE GET CANCELLATIONS, IT MIGHT RE-OPEN. GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: A basic level of fitness and dexterity is required to move around the ship while it is moving. You need a spirit of adventure, and to embrace working as a team to assist sailing the ship. However no prior sailing experience is required and you will be trained on the job. At times you might have to be awake at night for up to 2 hours to assist in running the ship. ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: The ship is named South Passage. She is built on the same lines as a New York Pilot Schooner, and has a total length of 30 metres.  Each day we will find a picturesque anchorage, set foot on an enchanted island off the Barrier Reef for a bushwalk, or go snorkelling. The locations might include Magnetic Island, Hinchenbrook, sandy cays, Dunk Island, and Fitzroy Island.  The emphasis is on having a good time and getting a range of experiences – not just hard-core sailing. You will never be bored!  The voyage is for 7 days, and will cost around $1400. A deposit of $200 will be required before the voyage.  And balance to be paid 3 weeks prior to the voyage.  There is a limit of 18 passsengers. This cost does not include flying to Townsville, and return from Cairns in Queensland, but includes everything once you are on board.  South Passage does not have any powered winches, so we rely on your manpower to sweat the lines and do all tasks required to run the ship, in the same manner as the ancient mariners.  Of note, South Passage is a dry ship, and there's no smoking on board. My experience is that you will not miss this since there are so many activities to challenge your senses and keep you occupied. A great chance for a detox. Also no naturism is possible. In case of snap COVID-19 restrictions that prevent travel, our booking will be deferred to a later date, or a refund offered. BOOKING: ASAP! Numbers are limited to 18, and will be based on the first to show Expression of Interest by clicking Get Ticket in this event. All sailors need to be on board South Passage by 10pm on 9 June, and the voyage is expected to end at 4pm on 16 June. Further updates will be provided to people who have expressed interest.  Not sure if you've already registered? Click View my bookings. FURTHER INFORMATION: southpassage.org.au. MEETING TIME | LOCATION: Townsville before 11pm on 9th June 2022 (Boats dont wait).  MAP REFERENCE: Cairns: Google map goo.gl/maps/ecDnXW6DzYNGZ8ah8. Townsville: Google map g.page/BreakwaterMarinaTSV?share. DISTANCE | TIME FROM GPO: A long way. Best to fly to/from Queensland. This cost is not included in the voyage cost above. Exact dates will be provided early in 2022, but preliminary dates are 9-16th June. FOOD: All meals are provided onboard. All preferences are catered for. APPAREL | FOOTWEAR: It is generally balmy. However, if we get some rain it can be cool. A packing list will be provided. LEADER: Roger H. | Email LeaderRogerH.thenomadsinc@mail.tidyhq.com if you have any questions.
