2023 Archibald Exhibition and Pub Lunch

Enjoy a pub lunch at the Mornington Hotel on the Nepean Highway before a 30-minute walk to the Mornington Peninsula Regional Art Gallery for the ONLY exhibition in Victoria of the final selection of entries for the 2023 Archibald Portrait Art Prize.

GRADE | LENGTH | TYPE: Social and Easy - 6 km circuit walk to/from the Pub. 

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: This event is designed to be accessed by public transport, optionally starting with a pub lunch at the Mornington Hotel, followed by a walk to the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery to view 57 portraits from the Archibald Prize 2023, for the viewing period starting at 2pm. You may also go directly to the gallery if you're not planning to dine with the group. 

The Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery (MPRG) is welcoming enthusiastic art lovers for the prestigious and popular Archibald Prize 2023 from 15 September to 5 November 2023, with an extraordinary display of 57 portraits, featuring public figures and cultural identities from all walks of life, reflecting the stories of our times. MPRG will be the first stop on the Archibald Prize 2023 regional tour, and the only Victorian venue. 

The walking tour will also visit the historic Mornington Railway Station and the Mornington Peninsula Rose Gardens.

BOOKING:

  • Art Gallery: ASAP via Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery for the 2pm time slot.
  • The Nomads: By Friday 27th October - to register click on Get Tickets. You will be asked to indicate whether or not you wish to be included in our lunch group booking.

MEETING TIME | LOCATION:

  • DINNER: 12 noon at Mornington Hotel, 917 Nepean Highway, Mornington; next to Toyota Dealership (traffic lights control a right-hand slip lane off Nepean Highway into the Hotel). 
  • ART EXHIBITION: 2pm at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Civic Reserve, Dunns Road, Mornington.

MAP REFERENCE:

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: You can use ptv.vic.gov.au to plan your journey. Suggested options:

  • Outbound: Catch the Frankston line train departing Flinders Street (probably platform 8) at 10:17am, arriving in Frankston at 11:24am. Move quickly to Bus Bay F to catch the 11:29am #788 Portsea bus, and alight at Beleura Private Hospital / Nepean Highway at 11:50am. From there it's just a 3 minute walk to the pub. (To be sure of getting to the bus stop in time, you could catch the train departing from Flinders Street at 9:57am, which arrives in Frankston at 11:04am, and perhaps get a coffee in Frankston while you're waiting).
  • Return: The option selected will depend on timing. Bus lines 784, 785, 781 or 788 connect to Frankston Station, from where trains depart regularly for Flinders Street, typically every 10 minutes.

FOOD: Check food options via Mornington Hotel Bistro Menu.
